Just added up the age of my stuff.... Was using my Britool kit over 40 years ago.

Grandson has a scrambler bike, told me it's out of service, as the chain has stretched. Tell him I've a chain splitter in one of my tool boxes, we find it for his dad to remove a link. Grandson was quite impressed with my 'Vintage' Renold chain splitter. Realise I was using it quite regularly 45 - 50 years ago.

Oddly enough, I have a set of Britool imperial and whitworth sockets, the red box (aka impact socket set ) that the speed brace sits on was purchased with one of my first pay checks....
Latterly when I worked at Porsche/Land Rover all the apprentices had major accounts (and debts) with the snap on van, frequently breaking sockets and having replaced,
Those little bad boys in the red box have stood the test of time and are of similar vintage, even the plastic tray is intact...
Knipex plier set is A n other toolbox jewel o_O
Must get them on Dickonsons bargain Hunt!

Britool were good quality, made to last. I have a couple of sets of their spanners in imperial and metric, plus all 3 of my torque wrenches (different ranges) are Britool. Got a lot of Snap-On - very nice but somewhat overpriced. All designed to last a lifetime, if treated properly.

I started buying my kit in 1966, Spanner sets were bought one at a time from my local supplier. My father and his plant fitters used Stahlwille, German quality. I did the same, still have them and many are as new even 50 years on.

I bought my original Britool socket set after a lot of saving, took weeks to save the 'tool money' to get a set of Whitworth & AF (up to 1 1/4"). In a moment of madness, I parted with it as part of a car deal, as I wasn't using it. Regretted it and later bought another second-hand set of the same kit, but it was missing the breaker bar I had in my original set.

Women collect shoes and handbags. Men collect tool sets and other shiny Cr-Mo items. :ROFLMAO:

Yes, I like to collect a few interesting tools, 1/4" hex' drive bits and pieces, palm ratchets, and odd bits of socketry.

This is my latest present to my self. A Connex 'Pass-through' metric socket set. Good piece of kit, with conversion adapters for 1/2" & 3/8" conventional sockets.

    Anyone else into 'pass-through' kit?
