Hmmm something to note. I will check my diff capacity (and engine) and scrutinize it closely when the work is done!!
Thought I would update this as the car wants a brake fluid change at 2.5 years. Booking online it says explicitly that it is "Required after first 3 years from Registration" which isn't until September so I called the local dealer. They say this is wrong and it should say "3 years from manufacture" which in this case is April. Apparently first oil service is at latest 2 years from manufacture also.. I can see the logic but am surprised the BMW site is giving wrong info. Joe
I wonder Joe if your car was built around 6 months before delivery ? I remember you mentioned the oil service appeared similarly early too, the month of build is on the vin sticker on the door pillar. Others on here may know for certain, but I bet the pdi service isn't logged on the I-drive (mine neither) which I guess would reset the time parameters. Many cars hang around a bit (or used to !) before registration such as showroom cars, cancelled orders etc, so there must be a mechanism for doing so. In the build sheet info that the AUC dealer supplied along with a hard copy of the service history, I found out it was built (in Leipzig) only ten days before being registered (in Warrington), so the lack of pdi reset was of no consequence regarding time based intervals.
the build date will be on the information plate on the drivers door and all servicing is from this date rather than date of registration
I had my brake fluid changed this week on my way away for a visit, done at my Indy = £41 odd. Bargain!!
I think the website is giving correct information. At least as the ethos of the industry operates, all servicing & warranty is from date of registration not build, otherwise there would be loads of cars coming up with service messages too early, such as converted mobility vehicles, showroom display models, turquoise painted cars etc, that sit a few months before registration. Even stock models such as no options 320d or 116i etc that go on fleets may sit around for a while. Ok many will hit a mileage based service before the time counter runs out, but lots won't. Also would Leaseplan, Lex, Lombard etc put up with paying for a brake fluid change a couple of months before it was 3 years old and about to go to auction ? Having had lots of vehicles supplied on lease, it is hard enough getting them to pay for a tyre if there's not long on the contract..... I am totally guessing that entering the pdi completion on the Idrive would restart the service countdown as a 'one time' operation. As said before, my car doesn't show a pdi but having checked, the X5 40e at work does show one. I have no other BMWs available to check, maybe some others here can. Perhaps some dealers just don't bother connecting up.
My G30 shows a first service on the I drive a day before it was registered and with 6 miles on the clock, but not PDI by name as such
Mine has a service with 3 miles on the clock, same time as it was registered, so would be the PDI service.
click on the service to pull up information of what was carried out during service and does that show pre delivery check?
my car was built in September 2018 and service/pre delivery check at 2 miles was 24/09/2018 so you would have thought that all service requirements would show September 2022 or September 2023. but just to be different the brake fluid shows august 2023 and engine oil shows august 2022 so l guess the previous owner had service carried out in august so now the car shows 24 months from date of last service
Thanks Matthew, I wondered what it would say. At work this week I did take the X5 out twice for a couple of journeys but forgot to check to be honest. I know it does have an entry on the history at single digit miles, (mine doesn't as I've said before).
