Just updated my long term mpg for the 535i. Covering just under 22,000 miles, it is reporting 30.7mpg. That is less than an 8% mpg shortfall, against the NEDC test result for the model. If anyone can remember my first comments on the anticipated mpg when deciding to get the 535i, I was hoping for 30 - 31mpg as a realistic long term consumption. Not a bad estimate. Peter
Journey yesterday, none rush hour and half A road half motorway. Engine was warm to start with and am running Shell V Power tractor fuel. Did not go over 70mph and was gentle on the throttle except for two occasions. Did the 32 miles in an average of 57.8mpg - best results to date. Very impressed.
Peter, that is about what I'm getting on the 530d because I do mainly short journey's, hence why I wanted a petrol GT in the first instance, just couldn't find one at the time
Just returned from a 2335 mile trip round Europe (Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France) in our F25 35d and averaged 34.1 mpg. I wasn't driving 'economically' and in particular made full use of the Autobahn's so was very pleased with this. I would expect a 335d driven the same way would be around 10% better so should give you a view of fuel costs (currently £0.80/litre in Austria )
I filled my tank back in late June, still have quarter a tank, have gotten where I needed to be and back, doesn't look like I'll have to fill up again until November Does that count for efficiency ?
Still catching up on my reading...don't know if this helps but w.r.t. 20d vs. larger d, in this case 35d, both in an F10, same driving pattern... 20d (N47) achieved 84% of EU combined figure; 35d achieving 91% of EU combined figure. In a nutshell, the 35d is no more than 1 - 1.5p/mile more expensive to fuel (at comparable price per litre). That represents good value IMO. I'm sure Peter's right - small engine worked harder will lose out against official figures vs. large engine worked less.
It's funny how they burn fuel (which we are told will run out) to improve emissions. Seems almost counter-productive, especially the B47 engines which seems heroically thirsty. Properly coding out the EGR system on my E46 320d (backing off the turbo vanes to reduce back pressure) gave me an instant 10% hike in economy. Long trips used to top out at 45mpg, now 50mpg. Round the doors (which is the majority of my driving) with far too many cold/cool starts went from 36 to 40mpg. I'm pretty sure the smoke-under-booting has dropped off too. And the boot is almost always full of tools. It certainly improved the pick up at low revs - damn thing used to either struggle like a soap salesman on an ice rink or stall like a child's first paper plane. Interesting to see how things moved on later; got to play with Rog's E91 M47TU2 recently and found it has a throttle butterfly in the intake tract, again presumably for EGR pressure balancing purposes. So much for no pumping losses in a Diesel!
My 330d Xdrive is averaging around 47 Mpg. That's approx 85% A roads and 15% urban (small towns) driving mainly Comfort mode, with occasional use of Sport mode for overtakes and the odd blast on clear stretches. So very impressive for a 3 litre high performance car. When I first got the 330d I didn't plan on using Eco Pro much, but I've found it useful in heavy traffic as it changes gear earlier and has the automatic coasting function. If left in Eco Pro it has achieved over 50 Mpg. I should qualify that the above is taken from the OBC. So not sure how accurate they are?
My E70 30d is averaging 32.7 over the short run of 10 miles to work which i dont think is that bad really
My F25 X3 xDrive30d M Sport is averaging 39.2 mpg over 8,400 miles, using Fuelly.com. I thought that was very good.
My E70 40d is averaging 28mpg - but I've only had it a couple of weeks and havn't really explored it's full potential yet
E60 535d is showing 30mpg. Bit low but has fault with throttle body/egr which I'm looking to change soon and hopefully goes up to 35mpg
The acual figure on the dash last night when I drove it said 20.7mpg avg. 80-90% urban though and neither of us have a light foot! Sounds like I'd be better off with a 550i....
Very typical for the X5. Very few people achieve over 30mpg combined unless driving like nuns. Even at 70mph on a long motorway journey I never saw more than 33mpg.
I have averaged 44 MPG over the last 7K miles in my 320D (N47) although the last fill was 46 MPG. I'm getting around 620 miles to the tank which is more or less the same as my old 320cd (M47).
680-700 miles to the tank on a 320D (not ED). How does that sound? I haven't done the calculations yet and don't know the litre size of the tank. Still, it's better than a previous 2 litre petrol I used to run - £80 a tank for 475 miles max. Nowadays I'm paying £60 per tank and getting the above miles. In the wake of the emissions scandal I'm sure manufacturers will have to revise their MPG estimations at some point, I don't think I've ever got near them on any car I've owned. My latest 320d however is the first car to underestimate the miles in a tank from the onboard computer.
