After a year and a bit of no M5 I did some bits on the house and pretty much come to an end with that.

I was looking seriously for an Alpina as felt this could fit the bill for a replacement but few and far between for what I wanted to get.

So deposit paid on a 2007 S63 AMG L. This car is in silver with black leather interior, 61,000 miles on the clock and three owners from new. Pretty excited and have done some restoration work on the SL and it’s pretty enjoyable restoring an older car so got this (not that on the face of it it will need anything doing currently) and need to do some work on the a range Rover this year.

Don’t think I will make money on this in the same way as the M5 as a different type of car but probably won’t lose much money on it in the future as well.

I still have a read through here now and again and appreciate that I will contribute less as no BMW on fleet.

    Cheers

Congratulations Alex - that'll be an absolute stonker, no doubt. I think I speak for all of us when I say we'd love you to come back and report on your experiences with it.

You're not the only one on here with no BMW anymore! ;)

Thanks, will try to and will add some pictures when it arrives an it is all good. I haven’t seen the car in the flesh as buying from an independent garage in Sheffield and they are delivering by transporter next Tuesday.

The SL has had some paint work to sit some bubbling on the rear arches and now lives in a so regulated bubble in the garage. Pain in the backside to put up as the instructions were very poor, but got there in the end after watching a video online an finding some better instructions as well.

All I can now think is “I want a regulated bubble”!! Looks like something out of Blake’s 7 (showing my age).
The S63 sounds like a great car, very much looking forward to hearing the initial impressions.

She is yes. I stood behind one of the kids and told her so she couldn’t get to me

So the car was delivered this afternoon. I really like it and am pleased. Bought unseen and only looked at some pictures an had a video sent and the health check video when the service was completed last week at MB.

It was dropped off and they left before I had even paid for it. Go to get used to some of the tech in the car, buttons awesome and doesn’t look 19 years old. Had the body shop do a once over on it and they were impressed so feeling pretty good about it. My wife says it’s better than the M5 Touring so that is high praise indeed.

Picture to follow, but using it for work for next couple of days and then a trip to Bristol and Bath in it next Tuesday is planned.

    Cheers

When it arrived at work yesterday

    This morning after rain overnight

Someone has kindly retrofitted CarPlay but can get any sound out of it so got to research that an sort out

Fuel consumption on the way to work. Not as bad as I thought it would be all things considered

Took the family out in it last night. My son loves it. The night vision is a bit of a gimmick an not something I could have on and drive with. Have a sound clip of a cold start but not able to add on here. Sounds awesome though.

    Cheers

That’s a lovely bit of kit, congratulations!

Also don’t think the fuel economy is that bad considering how big, heavy and powerful it is.

Did it come from factory with the very orange indicator lenses or is that someone having tried to US-ify it? My preference would be for a bit cleaner in that regard.

Please keep us updated with how you get on with it. Delighted to see these cars being saved and used.

What an absolute beast! I’d imagine that is an epic thing to hear on cold start. I hope you have some appreciative neighbours….

Sorted out the car play not working and it seems to have been quite a good install as all wood directly through the Bluetooth puck and the head unit. Had the car in the workshop today and can’t find where it had been installed.

Few issues have cropped up, but not unexpected as the car is nearly 19 years old.

Started to get a whining/humming noise that is quite hollow sounding last night when driving home from work and felt a bit like the power steering fluid was low. Checked today and it is the pulsation damper for the suspension that runs off the pump for the power steering so got one on order. I have replaced these twice on the SL as should be done every 10 years so suspect this is something not done by previous owners.

Washer jets stopped working and the pump has failed. Best in mind it had been serviced by MB last week an also has afresh MOT am confident that it’s not been missed and had just failed when I’ve gone to use it.

The drivers seat lumbar support and active support didn’t work. I could select it and try and adjust the lumbar support but it wouldn’t do anything. Stripped the seat and found the control unit had been unplugged. No faults stored so obviously historic as would go through a Star test without flagging any issues. Plugged back in and got 90% of the lumbar parts to work and adjust. Suspect one of the bags in the seat needs to be replaced a someone gave up historically as it looks like a control unit at fault but tested properly and it does mostly work. Got to look into costs for this and will probably absorb them myself as feel like I have a win with the CarPlay system being in the car and no one knowing.

    Cheers

Had a trip out today and took this to give it a run. Kent to Bristol and Bath and then home. Chunk of driving and fuel consumption pretty good for what the car is.

Previous owner had already connected a ctek charge lead so saved me a job as well so already keeping the battery maintained

Really nice car to drive. Everyone says the back is a bit more comfortable than the front - not that I’d know yet!

In the interests of something BMW related, I’ve dropped my SL at Birds this morning for a quaife limited slip differential to be fitted. Some seriously nice cars there. Should be collecting on Saturday morning. This is something this car had been desperate to have done and I may do the same with the S63 as well depending on cost
