Wifes X1 was in for its first MOT last week passed I asked them to look at the FOS wheel which is showing signs of corrosion around tge centre cap...see below. Agreed to changed it under warranty so im back there now having yet another new wheel fitted. Im also watching the dealership "valeter" wash (attack) the used cars with a brush and dirty water ! Mentioned it to the service advisor to ensure they dont touch the X1 to be met with a shrug of the shoulders and "oh well"
Corrosion seems to start around the wheel centres. I think that it's due to the metal cone on wheel balance machine which damages the paint on the edge. Generally worse on diamond cut wheels. One of mine is now showing the 'white worm' on the centre cap, but the car is now 6 years old, so no chance of a warranty claim.
Ive lost count but i think this is the 5th wheel replaced under the 3 year warranty period...fairly sure this is a replacement of a replacement wheel
You need one of these in your life If you want to PM me your email address, I can send the file for you to print out, laminate, and leave in the car for future visits. A 'tent' self-standing version is also available.
Absolutely agree. Slim sent me a copy and I made up 6 of these. I know it is overkill, but I put one on each seat. Sometime back when I had the Audi Q5 and it went in for servicing, I asked them not to wash the car. The service adviser asked if he could have one of the signs because many customers have the same request. When I went back 6 months later, they asked for another sign, because they needed more.
Cheers....i simply write out a big note and have it put on the job sheet Some of the service advisors recognise me and know not even to suggest they wash either car!
l have a a couple of mirror hangers that look like this l also got another one that came with the Feynlab warranty when the car was detailed and one is always hung on the mirror when the car goes in for service funny thing a few years back the car went in for service and MOT and do not wash was added to the job sheet and the mirror hanger was in place and when the service advisor went down to collect the car it was absolutely gleaming and the servce advisor was gong nuts sayng you werent meant to wash that the owner wll go mad the reply came back "we haven't touched it the car came in looking like that"
Slim was generous enough to send me a copy of these, which I had laminated and they are in the glove box for any dealer visits. I've seen too many so called valeters at work with a yard brush and bucket.
I have one of these also, leave it in the glove box. I use it when i was taking the car in for the wheel corrosion as they did advise they may also wash the car as a courtesy etc. Kev
Unfortunately the figures are too far off for me to even be tempted, not to mention the chap has quoted me on a Petrol instead of a diesel and a black car instead of grey.... clearly wasn't paying too much notice when we spoke on the phone. Considering the car had been in that morning, he didn't know the mileage, condition and even said I bought the car from them, when i didn't it was another dealer in same network. Think this is likely a young chap. He emailed me the quotes today and unfortunately I'm going to reply shortly and advise it's a no go as the numbers just don't add up. Which in fairness I always new they probably wouldn't but was expecting a accurate quote based on the car i asked for Kev
Just picked mine back up, clean pass, only advisory was a small chip on the windscreen, happy with that
Maybe the black petrol version was sticking on the forecourt and they were trying to entice you with a "supa dupa special one off deal" !
go back five years and you would find that most of the dealer registered delivery mileage stock was pretty much all diesel models and if you walked in and asked for a petrol car they would have looked at you like you had two heads. roll on to 2021 and the opposite is true and most dealer delivery mileage stock is now petrol cars looking at the dealer that l normally use their out the door delivery mileage stock s all petrol and in cars you have to go up to a 70 grand 730D before you find a diesel car and X5 and up are available in diesel. even the 5 series have are all 2 litre petrol or hybrid so the dealers will be pushing petrol because that s what they have in stock @Kev2005 you said the numbers are to far off but the new 3 series in 320D form in a white non metallic colour with no extras is around 39 grand list price throw n a couple of options and you are above forty grand list A 3 series petrol on a four year PCP with an allowance of 10,000 miles per year and a two grand deposit is close to £400.00 a month and then after four years you have a sixteen grand balloon payment to pay if you want to keep the car or you can hand it back and walk away after paying twenty two grand and if you are lucky you may have enough equity to pay the deposit on a new car an then you start all over again
@mach one Yes very true, I remember when i bought my existing car they were all mostly diesels then. Yes, unfortunately the numbers were too far out, even with my trade in value, I couldn't make them meet up, it seems no discounts are being applied, its the full RRP of the car so the cost to change is just too much, especially in current climate when no one knows what's going to happen. That extra sheet of paper that was added is the data that gets filled in at the bottom of the examiners check-list. It's for the table at the bottom: https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...5574-4222-9771-5792d794f79f&utm_content=daily
Thanks @Singvogel so should i be concerned about some of the numbers not matching on both sides such as:- maximum brake force Left: 279, Right: 331 Variation % Left; 8 Right 5 etc not sure if any things are the start of any potential issue? I mean yes its passed but do these numbers meant potentially a issue later on if gets worse? never had one before, usually I just get 1 piece of paper saying passed with car details, mileage etc. Thanks Kev
ah ok thank- i just saw some of the numbers a fair bit higher, as opposed to just a few numbers difference Thanks for the info! Kev
