has anybody been over in Munich for the Christmas markets?

I have a week off work at the beginning of December 2018 and as it is a while since i have been over to Germany i was thinking of going to Munich for a visit to the Christmas markets, the trip will be five nights and will include some time at the BMW Welt, factory tour, and some time in the museum a day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle for the missus and lots of time to visit the Christmas markets

I have been e mailing the welt to find out what dates i can get that fit with my leave so once that is sorted i will build my trip around hat date

if you have any info on the best markets to visit and what to do in Munich at that time of year

Been twice in May and September (for Oktoberfest!) - can give you details of the best drinking houses in town!

it will be my fourth trip to Munich so pretty familiar with the city, I think i remember your last trip, did you post on the board with pictures of your visit to the Welt, i have done a trip in april when we went to Fruhlingfest the spring festival, one September trip which was the first weekend of Oktoberfest so i have done the beer festivals so this will be a nice quiet trip when it comes to the amount of alcohol consumed

Preaching to the converted then! We were there for the Mayboch festival and did most of the beer gardens last time. The Augusteiner Braustuben to the north of the centre was our favourite indoor hostelry!

Yes went to the Welt and Museum last year - great trip. We also did the museum on the island in the city which we really needed more time for.

the Augusteiner Braustuben is not that far from the hotel i am looking at which is a bit further along landsberger str going away from central station so one i will definitely keep in mind, had a look at their website and the food looks good and the beer prices look very reasonable

I am not familiar with the Mayboch festival and google didn't bring much up on it

Went to one a few years ago in Freiburg, so much better than the attempt at Leeds. (which I suppose you would expect). Got a parking ticket though. :(

Dont think i will have that problem as my car will be left at Manchester, Munich will all be on public transport so i can embrace the beer culture in Bavaria

Mine was in Gatwick ! Was a hire car from Mullhouse, turns out it was a Swizz car, and didn't have the German green sticker. I was with a local who said it will ok.
The biggest cost was two letters from Avis that came a day apart. Fine was a few Euro, letters were €52 in total.

well I have got my BMW Munich factory tour and museum tour booked for the first week in December, i had an e mail saying that tours can now be booked up to the 7th December which suited me fine so i have booked my tours, i have just booked flights with Lufthansa from Manchester to Munich and a hotel has been reserved for five nights so things are coming together

the missus wants to do a trip to Neuschwanstein castle and a visit to Oberammergau and i have been looking at coach tours from Munich but they only give you 30 minutes at Oberammergau which isn't really enough to give anything more than a very quick look around so may have to look at other options like hiring a car for a couple of days and doing a self drive trip

if anybody has done a trip to Neuschwanstein castle i would like to hear what you did and how you got there, the one thing that worries me about driving in December in Bavaria is the winter weather
