It’s so personal so respect and understand if you decide to change, but for me I’d leave as standard. The fact that it doesn’t match the gloss black wouldn’t have been a concern for me. That plus not wanting to do anything to damage my brand new car.
The front end grip and composure on this car is unreal. I have no comprehension of how good the G80/82 must be if this is as good as it is. Just seems to turn and grip, trailing throttle, half throttle, braking….doesn’t matter. Also doesn’t seem to matter what the conditions are like, 2 degrees and damp this afternoon and it just dug in and pulled/pushed through a series of islands at the back of the Kassam stadium in Oxford. Engineering marvel it is.
The car has been used far more regularly over the last few weeks, Enterprise have been sacked off, so looking to get the best I can from mine, making sure I get value out of that 45p per mile…. I’m very happy with what I have had out of the current tank full, over 42mpg (ECU reading) over the entire duration. This hasn’t been all motorway driving, lots of traffic, stop start, and some town driving, so a very mixed set of driving conditions. Had the car on Eco-Pro for nearly all of this tank full. For a heavy, powerful petrol car I’m happy. If I ran it to the end of the tank, I would have seen 500+ miles out of the 59L tank. This fill up was 97RON.
Admittedly quite boring, but then commuting around our motorway/A roads during rush hour is never going to thrill. What the gentle driving has shown my is just how fantastic the HK system is. Certainly couldn’t have a car without that level of music reproduction again. Going to fill it up with 99RON tomorrow and enjoy this tankful, see just what the difference is cost/economy wise.
Had a good blast to and from Consall Valley near Leek today, in between banks of fog. Superb grip and poise, Sport Individual selected for most of the journey, got the mpg down to a more respectable 24.5…..will try harder to get that down further. Car is absolutely covered in mud and muck, feels and looks properly driven now. Half way on the trip today, taken at the top of the road before the descent into the valley:
Discovered the “Sprint” function today. Vaguely remember one of the YouTube reviews showing it, so tried myself. Hold the left paddle down and the dash shows “Sprint”. This puts the car in temp Sport mode and manual gears, good for an overtake when in normal/Comfort mode. Worked well!
This sounds very interesting. Not one I’d even stumbled across, but then I also sometimes struggle to remember exactly what the right sequence of pressing the lock button and moving the stick moves between D/R so I’m maybe not the best judge of how to drive these things. I’ve tried to be more mindful of how it handles, especially compared to our 3 series, on the back of you mentioning how impressed you’ve been a couple times now. Being mindful that mine is less powerful and also RWD it impresses me every time I push on, grip in abundance as long as the surfaces aren’t crazy wet. But I would have to say the 3 series is more than decent too, so seems like a really sound platform all in.
The G22 is lower and stiffer than than the G20/21 versions, additional bracing on the front and rear. This is supposed to add a sporty (and firmer) feel to the car when compared to the other versions. Some gumph from the press release: “Furthermore, the track width of the rear axle on the new 4 Series Coupe is increased by 23 millimeters compared to the 3 Series Sedan. Along with the increased negative front wheel camber, the lateral stability is dramatically improved when taking corners at high speed.”
The G series chassis has so much mechanical grip over the previous F series. The whole car is a good step further on, interiors in particular. I haven’t driven a G platform other than my G80 M3 but the grip is bonkers and the turn in is so crisp and connected. BMW really got this platform right, right across the range.
Cleaned the car today, nice and shiny again. Decided to change over the side M badges to the gloss black ones. I think they look great, match the rest of the gloss black trim. Not 100% sure on the rear badges at the moment, considering de-badging the car.
Might get a chance tomorrow to wash it but it is a mess at the moment. Many country roads and zero time to wash
Managed to jet wash only the polo today.. Then, New rear shocks fitted with new top mounts, and rubber boots etc.. Followed by rear brake overhaul… pistons, shoes, attach’ springs, and drums etc etc..: followed by brake fluid flush….. 4 hr total…. Although until I could get my head around the brake shoe set up, I was fumbling in the dark for some time…. Front shocks next followed by new under engine water pipes…. Just ticked over 100k last night…. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
