Thought I would drop a hello into the 4 series forum as I am now the proud owner of a 2017 440i. Picked it up this morning from Barons in Farnborough. 2017 17 plate 13K miles Mineral Grey metallic Sport Auto HK stereo Memory seats Black leather with blue stitching 19” grey/metal alloys LED lights Auto wipers/lights etc Had the run in service at 14 miles, oil/filter at 9K and break fluid at 12,800. Went for the Autoglym treatment to the paint, leather and wheels, was very impressed with this on the E92 for two years. Drove the 130 miles home with a big grin on my face. The engine is an absolute peach, very early days but seems to have the right mix of vague economy and some serious shove. Dropped into Sport and saw seem silly speeds very quickly, going to have to watch that.... HK stereo is brilliant. Significant upgrade from stock, will take some setting adjustments to get right but so far impressed. Technology is impressive, already hooked the phone up, listening to Spotify on the way home. Will update as the journey of ownership unfolds, a happy new owner.
Congratulations! Lovely car that and always nice to get the full treatment at the showroom upon collection! Wish you many happy miles in it!
Congrats! Apparently M3/4 pads fit the MSport brakes, if you find the standard pads fading under sustained use. (Very unlikely)! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
very nice and l look forward to seeing what the MPG averages out at in normal use as l have looking some 5 and 6 series with the the 40i engine in them
what was the 320D returning close to 50 combined? l was thinking the x40i may be around 25-28 in a 6GT
The car computer stated 49.5mpg, but the actual via tank to tank to tank was 46mpg over the last 10k miles. Not to bad for a ZF6 auto 2.0 derv.
I’ve been out for a drive this morning, tested the car on roads known to me. Didn’t attempt to test the engine as I had the good lady wife with me.... The suspension set up is certainly a step ahead of the E92, as you would expect given the advances over time. Feels very secure on the road, the damping is very good, far more complaint than the older car. Even on 19” RFTs it is comfortable, rides over the vast majority of bumps/ruts without too much fuss. Whereas the E92 felt hard/harsh, this is altogether more refined. Steering feel is excellent, I can feel the front wheels on the road surface well, very confidence inspiring. Although at ahem “motorway” speeds yesterday the front did feel a little light. Might have a look at the default pressures. The cold start this morning was brilliant! Lovely rumble and bark, although the wife said it was embarrassing. What does she know....
Have remembered to put the Garmin dash cam back in just now, part of the insurance requirements. Had to just run the standard cigarette charger along the headlining, down the passenger doorframe and then into the glovebox, then the short run to the charger across the centre console. Not ideal at all but will have to be for a few days. The fuse box is in the boot on these, so for the full hard install I will need to run the cable via the rear seats and under the door trim, back up the rubber seal and then across the headlining. Maybe next weekend, will need to be in a patient mood.
Check to see if there's an additional socket in the footwell under the glove compartment... may only be there if it's got the extended storage option though. I powered my dashcam from there (but not permanently live)
Great shout! There is one there, does this turn off when the car has shut down? I’ve shut the door, locked the car and the green light is still on. Will check in ten mins.
Thanks. Not a bad thing it turns off I suppose, otherwise the camera just keeps recording. Still want to do a hard install, but this is a great temp job. Cheers.
I’ve seen that this is a fuse box location, got the impression it was for the larger load fuses. The one in the boot is for the auxiliary fuses, cig lighter, interior lights etc. Same as the one behind the glove box in the E9x series cars. Would have to find a safe way through the bulkhead to access that box. The few “how to” by auto electricians I’ve seen on YouTube all refer back to the one in the boot.
