It was a busy day yesterday and to top it all, it rained for several hours making the hand over by the dealer a wet soggy affair. When we started the order in April, we splurged out on it and have a few added extras. SWMBO had quite an input, so we kept adding to it before the order was finalised. I did not argue. The factory started building X1's on 7th May, but because there was a large build backlog, they did not start ours until 8th September. It arrived on the 28th and was registered on 29th and we collected it yesterday the 30th. It replaces 2 cars. Mine was an Audi Q5 Quattro TFSI Sline, and hers was a Polo SE 1.0 95 95PS 7 Speed DSG 5 Door. It is quite a good specification as follows: Mineral Grey (metallic) Black with blue highlight Dakota leather with perforations Adaptive Suspension Steering wheel heating comes bundled with a pack Space-saver spare wheel (normal tyres NOT Runflats) Comfort Access Reversing Assist Assist Camera Panoramic sunglass Sun protection glass Electric Fr Seats + Driver Memory Lumbar support driver and front pass BMW Icon Adaptive LED Headlights Head-up Display Enhanced Bluetooth with wireless charging BMW Navigation Plus Comfort Pack 2 Technology Pack 1 Technology Pack 2 I am busy sorting out the Gtech ceramic coating and the u1000 Thinkware Dash Cam. We have sorted all added insurances privately including Gap insurance from our previous agent provider. Edited. The sun came out later, so I managed some Photographs.
We await your first report, and pictures. Will be interesting to read your views on the engine choice. Peter
Oddly enough, I was going to ask you if 'the event' had happened as planned. A good choice of delivery date, my Mum had one on that date [more years ago than I care to remember....] too. As Peter says , looking forward to a FULL report in due course.
How exciting! I’ve no idea how you’ve managed to wait so long, my patience wouldn’t have stretch that far. Looking forward to the updates and photos.
You will have to have some patience guys! As well as all the normal old age problems, such as bowel cancer and liver resection all 17 years ago followed 18 months ago with a blood clot in the top left ventricle of the Heart (yes you heard it correctly) that necessitated me going onto warfarin, I now have to wear an AIRCAST Wrist brace with thumb Spica for a wrist tendon problem. This means my touch typing has degraded to hunting and pecking on the keyboard that makes typing a major problem.
That sounds like a rum deal and a half, but you know what they say, a picture paints a thousand words...!
That is a good spec. Looking forward to the report and pictures. Especially interested in what you think of the engine as my wife is keen on an X1 / X2 / X3 to replace her 118i and would prefer petrol.
I spend my days doing that. . Predictive text helps sometimes, much less so at others Patience is a virtue, take all time you need.
Fab spec, enjoy the new purchase. Look forward to seeing the pics. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Very nice - Have these grown to old x3 size ? Shall be hard to find a similar spec, the options cost surely had no limit and little left on the list Hope you enjoy!
Thanks. Enjoying it already. Filthy weather slowing us down a bit. As ed says..... In fact, coming of Morrisons today one came into the car park and I had to look at the rear to be sure it was an X3. It is not until you park one against the other that you can tell the difference.
Congratulations on the new car arrival and hope you have many happy miles in it! Ours has barely covered 500miles since we bought it, but it's proving to be a good companion. My Partner's delighted with it and still has to pinch herself that it's hers. The confidence with which she drives around in it is lovely to see given she was never hugely fond of driving the Porsche. She's not a fan of the hair-trigger throttle and the size of it, whereas the X1 just ticks all the boxes. For me, although I went through a phase of driving the X1 whenever the opportunity arose, I now take the Macan whenever I can. That's nothing against the X1, if there were any other car on the driveway, then the X1 would get my vote more often. It's a great little car and what strikes me is just how smooth the 4-cylinder petrol is. The start-up/idle from the outside sounds like a diesel but inside it's very well dampened (acoustically) and has a surprising turn of speed when you give it some welly or pop it into Sport mode. On average we get 10-15mpg more than we do out of the Macan, which means for normal short A-road journeys we get 30-32mpg and for longer trips we're pushing >40mpg. The only downside so far is the tyre-noise which would put me off taking it on a much longer trip. Will be interested to see how you get on with that and if the CrossClimates change anything in that regard. But you've got yourself a great car there, which looks the part and should keep you happy on the toy count front. Enjoy!
I feel the same way with the wifes X1 Other than tyre noise there is nothing fundamentally wrong with it, she lives it BUT given the choice I take my G30 everytime, especially on longer trips, I just find it a more comfortable and relaxing place to be. Likewise she will take the X1 any day in preference to the G30 Both have done similar miles 25k yet the tyres on the X1 are down to about 3mm.....the G30 are still about 6mm all round
With regards to your comment, the day of reckoning arrived on August Bank Holiday Sunday 28th August 2022. This is just a little shy of 2 years since the car was built on 9 September 2020. We both had been commenting for some time on how noisy the car was when going on long trips. Originally, because we were moving from two cars to one, we had to have one we were both happy to live with to travel to family in various parts of the country, so, in early 2020 when Covid was still a problem, we took the X1 demonstrator from Oxford BMW on quite a long trip and checked it out for many things including this occasionally commented about tyre noise trait. The demonstrator was not noisy even on poorly surfaced roads and definitely not on motorways. So we moved forward and purchased as stated in my opening post. In hindsight (I have a master's degree in that) it was the wrong decision. We found it was noisy and we were getting more and more frustrated with the volume of it, so, I decided to start looking for a new vehicle to change to at the two-year point. Naturally, I expected to take a hit on the trade-in value for my X1, however, I was pleasantly surprised at the part exchange value because there is a shortage of low-mileage used cars. Especially for vehicles that are sometimes perceived to be the best in their classes and good workhorses. As I am a retired old geezer, I took hours looking at youtube videos (yes I know it is all opinion) and reading reports about Electric Vehicles (EVs), because I did not want another Internal combustion SAV/ SUV. I rang quite a few local dealers and obtained information on many including the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Skoda Enyaq, VW ID 4, Kia EV6, and of course the Audi EVs and the BMW iX3. These are to name a few. There are many more new ones appearing, but the problem with most is that you have to wait until at least February 2023 and in some cases 12 months. I even booked a test drive for a VW ID4 but chickened out at the last moment for various reasons that I will not go into here. All I can say was that there are too many perceived problems with the infotainment system. So we are now on the Sunday Bank Holiday weekend and having previously spoken to the Oxford Mercedes salesperson, we took out an EQA 250 4MATIC AMG Line Premium EV. While the Sales Executive was sorting out the paperwork, we looked at the EQB version. We liked it because the boot is far larger and the vehicle is more aesthetically pleasing to both of us. Also, it has excellent performance because of the higher-rated 300 electric motors. The salesman person said we could take it out for a run when we returned from the first drive of the EQA. On our return, we commented that the boot was a little on the small size, and so jumped into the EQB 300 4MATIC AMG Line Premium for the second drive of the day. I drove up and down the Witney Bypass on the noisy chipping surfaced tarmac road where the X1 was particularly noisy and through many of the local Cotswold villages where I live. Naturally, as we expected there is a small amount of road noise but not as previously experienced on the X1, so I will only say two things............silence is golden and Wooooooosh. We can hear ourselves talk when we previously heard a lot of tyre roar. On return to the dealership, we sat down and had discussions, and because of the low mileage and age of our X1 (with 12 months of manufacturer's guarantee left), we found we could get over 70% of the value of the car back. He offered us over £1000 more than weuyanycar. com. There and then we decided to purchase an EQB 300 4MATIC AMG Line Premium. There were many other little incentives thrown in (including a discount) such as an extra year's warranty. Wifey said, "I expect we will have to wait until next year". The salesman advised they had just been allocated one and we said: "Sold". We moved quickly and on Tuesday 5th September 2022 we collected it from Inchcape Mercedes Oxford. I have some photographs that I will upload as soon as I can get some spare time.
