Just come back from a 700 mile round trip to the Le Mans Classic in the E36. The car behaved perfectly even though open air motoring in the afternoon was baking to say the least.

Just an epic weekend of looking and watching old metal - won't bore you with all the photos but here some BMW related ones:

Love the M850i Coupe , don t like the colour scheme on the i8 , way too tarted up looking for my taste , and apart from that there s just something about old BMW s that is pleasing to the eye .

    Old or New? Both.

I still love the old models like the E24 635CSi, or bread and butter models like the E28 5-series. Particularly love the E28 M5. Had a chance to buy an E28 M5 a few years back, with hindsight should have bought it, before prices started going crazy.

Had a look at the i8 yesterday, not a fan of the multi-coloured models. The i8 at Grassicks was white, not my first choice of colour but did show how good it can look in a single colour.

The new 8-series, what a superb looking motor.

I have never seen so much precious metal in one place before - utterly amazing - you could sit in the bar in our campsite and just watch fabulous classics drive by. The racing is no holes barred either with quite a few spins of million pound plus machinery. Totally recommended!

Oh and there was a field of Porsches close to the main event run by Porsche owners club - must have been well over 250 911's of various vintages in there!!

I have not been for a few years but loved the Classic more than the 'real' LM especially after they started letting Audi diesel's race!
The Classic is great and often the cars in the campsites are just as good as the exhibition stands. The last time I went I was camped next to a black Ferrari Enzo!

As long as you get a numbered 'pitch' it is not too bad but the queue for the toilets/ showers can be horrific.

Stopped going to the regular LM mainly because of the campsites being so crowded. There are hotels further away from the circuit but then the issue can be getting back and you cannot see the cars at full chat down the Mulsanne straight at 3am

We were "glamping" in a pre-pitched bell tent - big enough to stand up in. Exclusive onsite bar and food with proper English ale!!

You can stay in Le Mans and get the tram in but likely to be hellishly expensive.

Sounds like an enjoyable trip. It's nice to see the old vintage models, but I would be opting for the 8 series.
Just beautiful! Not too sure of that colour, though. :)

I would have loved to have been there at Le Mans.

I scrolled eagerly down through the pics hoping to see one of my favourite BMWs of all time - the first M Car - the E26 of 1978 - alas no pics - but of course I fully understand you can't post everything you saw and took pics of.

That genuine 'Batmobile' E9 of 1972 looks a cracker - loads of 'lookee-likee' dodgy ones around for silly money these days.

I love that 1930's roadster - I'm assuming it's a 1937 328 - there is a few of them around - again not all genuine - with some made up recently from several cars they say were 'discovered' in what was East Germany.

Not many 328s are all original - even the one in BMW Museum has orange 'blinker' indicators which someone decided to fit in the 60's.

I can't think why they have removed the radiator cap - but removing the air-cleaners allows us to see the brilliant triple-Solex carburettor, six-cylinder engine better.

The spare-wheel carrier mount is very interesting too.

Than you for posting these wonderful pics.

There's an Ibis at the southern end of the straight. I've used it more than once when travelling to and from the UK. Rates go up at the time of events, and booking has to be done ASAP, typically 12 months in advance.

If memory serves me right, there's also an auberge on the straight.

I'm guessing there's more than the June event because on more than one occasion I've passed historic (and not so historic but certainly exotic) cars on this route, both earlier and later in the year.

And thanks for the pics E39mad.

Oops - your right - Oh dear.

Possibly because of the lights, I skipped quickly past the very first pic thinking it was an E31 840 or 850

I can't recall seeing an M1 with the 'pop-up' lights actually up before - that and the wheels being different from what I was looking for.

    E26 wheel.jpg

    That's my excuse anyway.
