Superb write up, as always. There is something satisfying in owning a car that you just like to drive, don't mind parking anywhere (within reason!) and don't need to clean every other weekend...!
Hopefully the bodyshop will do a good job for you.

A quick update - nothing major to add save for the fact fuel economy has stabilised at 31.1mpg. This pretty much mirrors what I get each tank now (between 350-400miles). I get much better mpg when on a run but locally it's about 28-30mpg, which accounts for the majority of the journeys. All that said, we have recently moved the existing campervan to a new storage yard which is much further away than the last, but is on hard-standing and has the benefit of being reachable by M11 & A120 rather than dodgy country roads. So all in all it takes the same time to get there but it's a 70mile round trip. So the 2er is the vehicle which gets driven down, left and collected again. I may have to look at insurance to up the 4k pa to around 6k pa. I've done 1.5k in the last 3months.

In more important news, the car was in the bodyshop last week whilst I was travelling and I collected it on Friday. It only took four days, partially by virtue of the fact that the damage wasn't as bad as they had originally forecast. The nearside rear light did need replacing as a bracket had broken from the pressure of the impact, the bumper skin needed plastic welding and respraying but the fear that brackets underneath might have broken was unfounded. As a result the bill came to £1.7k. I paid it upon collection and I got a bank transfer from the lady concerned 24hrs later. All sorted and you'd never know it had been touched. Even better that the Owner commented and complimented the car on how fresh and well looked after it looked - it being a superb example. Turns out he is a massive BMW fan having just bought himself an E60 M5 6months ago so we spent a long time talking everything BMWs! :)

I was so delighted with their work that I will take the Disco down there at some point and get them to look at some annoying lacquer run which I noticed on the passenger door from a poor repair at some point. He mentioned he might be able to wet sand it back and then polish up. Let's see.

In any event, it's lovely to have the car back in super nick again. It looks great out front and I genuinely feel very happy getting in to it, whether in the morning for the commute for when getting in after a long day at work for the journey home from the station. Heated seats work brilliantly (much quicker to warm than the Disco) and the heated steering wheel is a treat even if not as as hot and cosy as the Disco. No regrets whatsoever and I'm even now at the point that virtually every gearshift is buttery smooth......only taken 3months! :ROFLMAO:

Considering how that could have unravelled, that is a great result. Looks spot on from the photos.
