I’m the same, in terms of practicality and comfort. Oldest is now having his driving lessons and his MINI is lined up ready to go. The only thing for me is in to a 5, 6 cylinders of course or a X5 again. This is my thought cycle, maybe not as harsh as that and reliability touch wood has been good to me. Oh I do need another window regulator for near side rear. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
Well I thought I’d better blow the cob webs off this post and it isn’t an update to say it’s gone! Just over 2 years of ownership, some stats 18,540 miles travelled averaging a true 28.36 mpg. Given some of these journeys are <5 mile trips. Nothing too much to report on. Another window regulator went which I replaced myself and despite having 12 month services, it likes to have an interim oil change due to the oil dilution sensor telling it to, so in theory serviced every 6 months. Being honest, I do keep an eye out for other potential replacements. I’ve been using my son’s MINI as a bit of a pool car. This averages comfortable 42mpg so is much cheaper to run around in and less headache coming to parking it up and not having to worry about it. Truth is, the value in these has crashed. Probably linked partly with the cost of living, but the increased insurance premiums, bad press of JLR stuff being stolen hasn’t helped. Trade values are poor, so to get anything decent to replace requires some extra £££ in to cover the negative equity which continually chasing its tail on. So the love and think about changing relationship continues. Secretly, I do think I’d miss it too much, but a Range Rover Sport I often eye up on the roads would be a good replacement, but then I expect I’d be having the same conversations with myself after another year or so! Leaning, definitely doesn’t get done as often. Such a chore, it’s a minimum of 2 hours. Yesterday I tackled it again, and out on some nice Fusso wax which should hopefully be more longer lasting and beads really well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Service due this week and it’s a big one, £1054 which I think is the most I’ve ever paid for any service! This price also seems to vary dealer to dealer, as in Liverpool it’s £1250! Go figure. It’ll also get the security update too and I know I’ll get some recommendation to replace the front tyres Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Wow, that is some service, makes me thankful that I got the 5 year service pack for the U11 X1. That seems a huge amount of money for a service even if it is a big one!
Gulp - I think it’s going to be something similar for mine in about 6k when it’s service time Very similar costs to servicing my Macan……which for some reason feels more justifiable for a Porsche, less so for a JLR
That’s even more than the big service on my M5, albeit not by much (~£925). The biggest contributor was changing 8 spark plugs.
Yeah I’ve had to mentally prepare myself for it, especially when I’m getting an itch to change into something else (M340/D) perhaps. Hopefully mate can sort something on price, in the mean time consuming as much freebie as I can Office view Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Good luck and hope that's "all" the bill is. Also don't envy you being in there. My bill would end up a whole more expensive given I'd struggle to steer clear of those Rangies
Do Range Rovers and Discoveries come with there own "M" tax BMW style ? £1250 for a service which is probably 2 hours labour, £50 in oil and some filters Oh and a lengthy list of -- we noticed brakes / tyres are 10% worn would you like us to change them etc
Madness!! What was on the invoice? At that price I'd expect all filters (air, fuel, oil), oil change & brake fluid - at the very least.
Or nowadays an Oil Change and lots of looking at stuff, oh and the usual scoping charge.....which is quite a con
BMW dealers get quite a bashing on here and elsewhere but 3 weeks ago my 2018 640d got an MOT and Brake fluid service at my local main dealer for the princely sum of £124. That also included a new 340i touring loan car for the day. I realise that is a minor service but couldn’t quite believe how cheap it actually was.
My LandRover days are long gone. I don't need to scratch that itch any more. I thoroughly enjoyed the off- road fun and such. Did several LandRover Experience days too - still have the baseball caps with 'Adventure' on the side. But the constant fettling just became too much of a chore - visited dealerships in at least 5 countries - very nice mechanics but the receptionists were always somehow 'superior' and condescending.
The servicing models are bonkers when JLR involved. I’ll probably also need another interim oil change in 6 months time due to the oil dilution sensor. The selection of new RR,RRS and Discos is all so tempting. They really are fantastic machines! Anyways, mate came up trumps and shaved off a bit of the bill. This is all that was done which is in line with the indicated service requirements ion the website. Although no screen wash noted and I had to ask for the key batteries to be done! Also, booked in again for the security update as their topic system went down. Tyres advisory on the front as approaching 2.5mm. I may get this done when update is done, although winters will soon be going on as I can’t seem to shift these. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
So brake hoses are a service item? Wow! Glad you got the pricing shaved but makes me worry about my next one.
