That said, having weekends free from travelling to see friends and family, thoughts have turned to what few things there are to do in a new build (got to say I both miss the DIY and delighted at how limited it is too!).

    The garage....! :)

I must say, it’s a pretty decent size. I’d hoped for a double garage given the outlay on the house but it was a compromise I was willing to make. The plans showed they’d at least considered space for a car AND a couple of bikes, so in that sense good, but it does then require some serious thought about other storage in order to avoid having a shed (which I would indeed prefer to avoid to save taking up valuable garden space). The Macan fits perfectly and I tend to keep it tucked in there every night and want to keep doing so.

So thoughts have turned to stage one:

Some decent solution for tidying my detailing gear.

After much research I’ve settled upon some racking solutions which are a mixture of bits & bobs sourced from eBay & usual hardware stores. Plan is to first paint the breeze blocks white. I’ll then rack put using the design (badly drawn) below for the detailing gear. That will free up some space and allow my thoughts to turn to storage.

Given the height of the ceiling, I’m tempted to put up some decent shelving up to roof height back the back, bicycles hanging on their front wheels off the back wall and then putting in a mezzanine Level above the up and over electric garage door for extra storage too.

I’ll keep this thread updated with progress as I kick off. In the meantime, if anyone would like to share their garage setups for inspiration, much obliged! :)

    That’s a very nice steed!

Yup, I’ve had to drop the saddle for Mrs Spuff to use it until we sort her out with a new bike. But it’s an absolute blinder of a hybrid. My second one now - the first I commutes into London on daily for two years (60miles per day) and stood up to untold abuse.

Indeed. This is my guilty pleasure. :cloud9: Just started to use it again after the hiatus of being in Germany. It’s a 5010c - I had it custom built and it’s been up Skiddaw & Helvellyn. It’s reminded me of what I’ve been missing and I’m getting out on daily 20km loops around the local area at the moment and loving it. Just waiting on a new chain as I snapped the last one at Easter weekend.

I had one for a few years but sold it last year to get a BMC Alpenchallenge AC01 Alffine. Like you I use it for the London commute and I find the BMC to be lighter, more comfortable and maintenance free, with its rubber belt and internal gears. Its also much quicker than the Bad Boy and I didn't think that was possible.
I also have a Kona Dr Fine Alffine for commuting (a bike at either end of the train journey), but that is not a patch on the BMC. My Kona is currently stuck at Waterloo.

@kleynie do they have secure cycle storage at Waterloo to avoid theft? How can you leave it there long term safely?

No, but it has two £100 chains on it and security screws in all removable parts. The problem is that I dont want to get on the train to pick it up and I would probably get stopped if I drove up there.

So stage one of project is complete. The starting wall has two coats.

Today was supposed to be racking day but I found that the Stanley Wall Track System i bought doesn’t come with the connectors to make one long length so I’ve had to order separately. Pretty mad about that.

But it’ll give me a chance to finish painting the whole garage over the coming week so that next weekend I can get fitting out.

Slave labour doing the hard work....... smart!
It has to be the worst part of any project, though merits huge reward

Garage wall looks good. I must do my garage when I get time. Sorry, if I ever get time.

    Cheers

    I knew it
As soon as I saw the wall with your tools on....I am not but I am in the aircraft industry.... my works tool box is a work of art for ‘shadowing’ but sadly it is not reflected in my garage...!
    Yet anyway...

I gave up a long time ago trying to keep garages tidy.
Jas tidied ours up recently, probably as the s**t on floor was now making it dangerous to move around in it.
Anyway doing her discs and pads all round soon sorted that, hope she tidies it up again this week.

    OHP - OMG ! :eek::eek: Thats a dream.
