Hello everyone, this is my first post I'm sorry if not relevant for you, I have just gone trough the recall notice regarding the battery cable, unfortunately right after I collect my car (kept there 2 days) I notice that the start and stop function is not working, any help how I can get it back? It's cool feature I dont want to lose it, I understand they had to unplug the battery, the battery it self is one year old, it is bosh one with this new agm techonoloogy, it was one of the best paid 229£ for it, I really think they messed up something. Any help would be really appreciated Thanks in advance
Don't forget that the parameters for Stop/Start are many and varied. It could just be that certain criteria was not met on your journeys since you collected it from the dealer. Kindest Regards Carl.
Hi guys, thanks for the welcome and thanks for the quick answer, I'll go to the dealer right tomorrow morning as suggested, I'll let you know what's happen as soon I'm back
See if it works in the morning, could be something simple like there was another campaign or something that required programming, that can lose the battery state of charge and require a sleep cycle to restore it in the meantime stop start won’t work.
They could have left the doors open after doing the job and plugging in the diagnostics and the battery was down a little as that will stop it working. Might just start working again after a bit of a run (sod's law it will start again just as you get back to the dealers) lol.
Hi all, so yesterday I decided to go back to the dealer just to make sure they didn't mess up anything, well I was about to park the car when saw the manager( I think ) whom took care of my car, then I stopped to tell him what was going on, start and stop kicked in that very moment... I was like hey how you doing mate, then I told him what happened and why I was there, he said they had a full check on the car after replacing the cable, everything was good, but no road test, he said probably the software took some time before getting back to normal.
That sounds like a tall story More likely the battery was run down and the system disables Is there a light on the dash that’s changes colour / or strokes through when the battery is below stop/start state of charge ? Chances are the run over to the dealer was sufficient to bring it back to life
No lights lighting up on the dash, I drove about 3 miles before getting back there, at first I thought the battery too, but is only 1 year old, should be fine, personally couldn’t explain, dealer too. Just scared happen again.
Most likely the battery SoC. BMW energy management doesn't run the battery at 100% SoC. Same for a year old battery as an older one. Typically running around 70 - 80%, unless you have lots of over-run energy harvesting, (regeneration). So any work, even washing/cleaning a car, can drop the charge to lower limits, where stop-start won't work. If the SoC is low, the Intelligent Alternator Control (IGR), switches to conventional charging, which is outside the parameters for stop-start. Peter
The dealer took care of washing the car in and out before collection, is that possible? I mean a wash can make this happen??? Sounds extreme
Stop/Start is governed by many and varied parameters. Ambient temperature can effect it, as can length of journey, engine temperature, electrical load, style of driving, battery age and condition etc etc So yes washing the car can effect when it functions. Goggle the subject and you will see that it relies on many layers of information before it decides to deploy. Kindest Regards Carl.
By cleaning I really meant doors open, music on, etc., while cleaning and waxing the car. The other suggestion that data for battery condition was lost, while they were working on the car is plausible, needed the sleep cycle to reread the required parameters. Peter
Your stop / start function has stopped working? . . . That's fortunate. It will save you the job of coding to deactivate it.
Well after a sleep cycle it start working again, but if I don’t want use it there is simply to click a button, no coding needed
Mine is coded to remember the last setting - just so I don't need to turn it off every time the car is started. My view on Stop / Start is that it's just a way for the manufacturers to manipulate the fuel consumption figures. Plus put wear on the starter / ring gear. But if you're happy with it - who am I to argue. As has already been said, the stop / start does not always work - due to engine temperature, battery condition, electrical load on components etc. So I'm guessing that there's nothing wrong with yours.
