    Hi,

Can anyone recommend a decent runflat for both performance and price so ideally a balance between the 2. I do 25K miles a yr. I normally buy premium brands but was interested to see if any of the middle brands perform just as well.

    Thanks

I know that the standard fit Bridgestones get a lot of negative press, but I’ve not had a problem with them at all. The previous E92 had new ones fitted when I bought the car, 20k miles later both front and back had 4/5 mm left. The current F32 has them in as well, I’ve done 15k miles and both front and rear have plenty of tread.
Yes they are harder than non-RFTs, but I don’t feel that they have been unduly so. Grip is good, both in the wet and dry. I have to be very hard on the throttle in Sport to get the back to twitch out, and that’s with the B58 pumping it’s power though the rears.
Would happily replace like for like if I was keeping this car for longer.

I can highly rate the Pirelli P Zero's.

I found Bridgestones to be even harder compounder and the P Zero's are a great all rounder.

The car came with conti's all round but they seemed so hard which is why I changed to normal rubber

The RFT technology has come on somewhat in recent years. My first E92 (2008 325i) came with 17” RFT Bridgestones. They were a pretty hard ride, ended up swapping for 18” wheels with XL load tyres. That made a difference.
With the last E92 I was ready to ditch the RFTs straight away, esp as it came with MSport springs and 19” wheels. I was happy with the ride overall, obviously compromised but I was happy in the knowledge that I had RFTs in case of a puncture.
The new car (G22) will come with either Bridgestone or Pirelli RFTs, seems to be a lottery as to which are fitted at the factory.

Interested in your reasons for changing back to rft and what tyres you currently have?

I’ve recently switched from Goodyear rft to Michelin ps4s non run flat and currently undecided. I had initial transfer box issues which I’m currently putting down to kwik fit not putting enough air in one tyre, managed to get it to behave better by putting my winters on and resetting the transfer box a few times.
Just trying to decipher whether it feels unsettled by the non rft or just the usual xdrive sloppiness.

Currently running Mich PS4 all round on 19" staggered. Found them to be perfect to be honest and on the second set of the same on the rear. Just considering going back to RF's so I can ditch the spare 18" wheel in the boot  & have a little more safety on the long work runs that I do. Remember mines an xdrive

My F31 m sport 2wd runs the oem Bridgestone s001 rft’s. I haven’t tried anything else as I find them perfectly acceptable. The suspension suits the tyres well. They can be a little noisy though. I get >50k miles from fronts and >30k from rears. I’m just about to put on my 2nd set of rears. For normal driving they are perfectly fine.

My thoughts for sticking with the oem was that there are some service packages that include tyres. I didn’t think bmw would want to be fitting new sets every turn around so would use a set with decent wear properties but not ditch finders either.

I had the dreaded 17" Bridgestone Potenzas on my e90 320d M-Sport - terrible they were - both noisy and bumpy - felt just like my old Mk 1 Freelander.

Long before they wore out I changed to Continental ContiSport2 Runflats and the difference was night and day - smoother and quieter.

I also bought a set of 17" ContiWinterContact TS 830P non runflats - no change at all in comfort over the Summer tyres - but a tad noisier.

I know have a 330d M-Sport with 18" ContiSport5 reunflats for Summer and 17" Michelin Alpin A4 runflats for the Winter.

No way would I have anything other than runflats these days, but I have to say the choice is limited as the range of sizes from some manufactures is surprisingly limited.

There is no chance of either myself or Mrs Singvogel dealing with a dirty heavy wheel and tyre in the event of a puncture on a motorway in the rain or snow in the middle of the night.

We do carry a spacesaver and if conditions were favourable - a fine day and a safe spot to change a wheel - I would of course fit it

My F30 330d xDrive came fitted with Pirelli P Zero runflats as standard. They have been good tyres for wet / dry grip, low noise and good mileage (26K miles) so no complaints. I replaced them with the same as they are readily available in the 19 inch staggered sizes and BMW (*) rated. For price comparison, I paid £167 each for a pair of Pirelli PZero Runflat - 255/35 RF19 92Y (*) RFT rear tyres.
