    All,

Due for new tyres on the back is it standard practice to change the metal tpms value stem completely as you do a rubber valve or is this done only if its leaking? As 99% of most tyres garages dont have the kit on the shelf.

Does anyone change them on tyre replacement as a matter of course or not if they are not leaking?

Obviously you would replace them all if having the wheels refurbed.

    Thanks

    Rgds

l posted this recently on another tyre related thread and as long as everything is all right l just reuse rather than replace

the TPMS sensors are around £50.00 per corner and only normally need replacing if the batteries fail

the valve stems are aluminium and cost £19 - £20 a corner and they are reusable and don't need replacing unless the rubber seals are failing and losing air or the valve stem is damaged

you could if you want renew the valve core or valve insert and they would run around £3.00 a corner but for me if it aint broke don't fix it

that is what comes in the valve stem repair kit and as you wll see other than the rubber seal it is all fairly robust and should be alright to reuse

for me i would replace the valve stems if and when i had to replace the TPMS sensors

Bit of an old thread revival, but presently about to have a set of 20” m 468 alloys for my f15 x5 refurbished, but they need a set of suitable TPMS valves as they were not fitted when I bought them, bmw dealer prices look to be around £100 a wheel.
Anyone have any ideas where it’s possible to buy a set of oem ones for a more sensible price? Thanks in advance

That’s the big problem with eBay and Amazon a lot of rubbish on them and often difficult to tell.

These look like a good bet, but I’ll get a price from Cotswold and by normal dealer in the unlikely event they have a very good offer on for a set of 4.

Just ordered from Autodoc, after they sent a follow up email to the items I’d left in the basket which offered free delivery, so £105.60 for the 4, best price I could find from a uk dealer was £79.99 plus delivery.

thanks for all the input, just got to find a set of tyres next.

Good call, Monday is usually the biggest discount day and if you go to checkout then leave they will send a free delivery code the next day so stick something in on Sunday with a view to buy it Monday. Also best discount is through the app.
