Our last tyres (2 rear on the Three) came from the dealer. They price matched. That was a first. It's always worth a conversation.
Well they haven't bothered to reply to my email/message of me pointing out it was a staggered wheel set up and asking them to confirm the price for the rears. Next time she's in I may see if they'll price match. Despite them not stacking high to sell cheaper, tyres seem to have a decent mark up on them so could still be room for profit?
My local dealer, under new (ish) group ownership has become rather baggy at communication. Actually they're pretty useless. But I have contact numbers for some of the service advisers and when it doesn't go to voicemail they are helpful and accommodating, when they can be. I expect it varies a lot by dealer.
I put the X1 in for MoT ,end of warrantee check and Brake Fluid change yesterday. To my great shock it failed the MoT on tyres , not depth but deep cuts into 3 tyres 2 were down to 2.5mm ready for change 1 was nearly new. They sent me a video to show the damage , I would never have seen it just looking on the ground. They offered to fit 3 new ones similar to the remaining one that still had 5.5mm left. (it was 6mm new) The quoted me £156 per tyre , I knew that a few month ago I paid £310 for the 2 new ones,so after seeing if they would move I agreed that price. I have since checked my usual depot and a couple of others and could have not got them more that 55p per tyre cheaper, This really surpised me.
That’s pretty good then, when you’ve failed mot and are stuck your options can be much more limited so it’s good they were a good price. There’s usually a bit of margin for them in tyres but most of the issue of them being so expensive is purely the price they buy them at more often than not.
That is very good. So there doesn’t seem to be any consistency then on this, apart from maybe the size (commonality) perhaps making a difference. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
I took the wifes X1 in yesterday for its 1st MoT and end of warranty check. The dealer was offering MoT at £29.99 and as it was still under warranty and had new tyres all round a few months ago i thought i would take them up on it. Passed no advisories, having a wheel changed next week owing to corrosion There was also a sign up saying they would price match on tyres...no doubt a few T and Cs but always worth having that conversation
While I was happy over the tyres another matter has left me very unhappy I asked them to sort out the boot opening , it jams in odd places and can be difficult to open/close. They assured me it was OK no troubles. This morning I tried to open it a few times without success, went back and got the phone and videod it , fortunatly it opened on the second attempt. I have sent video over to dealer , who says it was perfect yesterday , so it was faulty before it went in ,faulty when it came out , but perfect during its visit. I do find it very difficult to get the dealer to carry out warrantee work, fortunatly this is the first fault with this car,but have had troubles in the past.
Having a video of the issue can be very useful, more often than not things that refuse to play ball. You could demonstrate it to a tech when dropping the car off as well although it’s almost a guarantee that it won’t occur then. At least with a video the tech can better understand what the issue might be.
