Think I’m giving into temptation and have arranged my first date tomorrow
    Test driving A modest GTS

Having spent the day looking I’m intrigued!
Whilst the spec is most likely too light, hopefully the condition doesn’t bowl me over!

    Absolutely Disgusted!

The car had been on sale since January and It appears in my browser as a second home page
Thoughts since January have been will I won’t I will I ..... etc etc!
Feeling a bit Jubilent (A N other story) I gave in.

Last Thursday I phoned the dealer, discussed the car and requested a video...... very quickly this was taken and sent allbeit the focus of the footage, looking back was less then pleasing, allbeit I was happy with the multiple photos.
Yesterday, the wife and I turned up, on way home after lunch, apparently “the car was round the Corner”
After what was a long time, I suggested coming back tomorrow (today) to their acceptance and agreement car will be fully prepped and in showroom, fuelled and ready for test drive...

    So today came,
I quickly washed the X5 as I was thinking on Part exchange with no disillusions that the price would offend me!

Down we went and pulled up at the Garage, on the opposite side of road and from afar,

“I said to the wife “what a pile of 5Hite”

Her reply was we’re here now!

    So in we went,
Parked up and had a walk towards car with that knowing queries from afar, ah new tyres, they look cheap 5hit due to the chequered flags on the sidewalls, Ah JInyu ju36 WTF! This is a car pushing 500bhp
All pictures from memory showed The correct Michelin N rated tyres (must of been low on tread)

A walkaround, filthy, absolutely filthy to suggest the car had been driven through puddles backwards and the debris had been smeared in by a child who had his friends around firing paintballs
Areas of bodywork that wasn’t covered in 5hit was so heavily marred and swirled the car begged believe

The interior resembled the morning after a heavy night with a herd of cattle running through it! A Stinking disgrace & covered in Animal hair.

Somepoint after closing the boot the salesman bounced over and chirpy......

My greeting, “Are you taking the piss, what a pile of 5Hite, could you not of told me yesterday it was rough as a badgers arse!
The wife jumped in to stop me further degrading him
His innocence gave a leading question.... What?
So I fired through another rant
Pointing out the tyre choice, I suggested, I wouldn’t drive around the car park with that 5hit on the corners let alone test drive on public roads... opening the doors I asked him if he’d pay top coin for this 5hitheap!

Anyways my rants went on for sometime, with the General Salesmanager and poor salesman apologizing

NEEDLESS TO SAY IM OFFICIALLY SICK OF PORSCHES!

That was my 5th viewing , it’s very evident that the Used Porsche Cayenne Market is not a wise Choice,
I’ve been disappointed at Main Dealer Approved Used, as well as sickened from this one, however this one is from a local and well respected Chain that started many years ago selling BMW
It’s clearly evident many can afford Porsche but not maintain Porsche

In my case, I can’t realistically afford to Spec New at present, so I’ll have to peruse other Marques and commence the long wait until such a time a new Porker is affordable! (Back to Plan A, when the mortgage is cleared)

    Anyways
On more positive note, as we were out, we visited Land Rover, Jaguar, KIa (Test drove a Sportage) went into BMW and drooled on the x4 then played around Mercedes and the C class coupe!

    New Evoque, Nice,
On the fence with the F Pace,
Kia Sportage drives very well, but think in the long term the car park caper will be lost! (walk away and second look proud of ownership)

BMW, looked at the new 3 series in showroom, disappointed at the abundant denim dye on the Ivory seats of showroom car, moreso as every car in showroom had similar levels of dye staining! Initially went to look a the x3 however the X4 is a nice steed!
Overall the new 3 series is impressive with a positive leap forward, shame Audi beat them to the dash layout!

Currently sick of Audi as our New A3 has a delayed delivery, should of been with us tomorrow, so never went in there.....

Currently speccing up a C Class Coupe C300 Amg Line plus!

Oh dear, does not sound inspiring. Having a Porsche badge on the front does not guarantee that it will be looked after by previous owners, but you would expect a prestige Porsche dealership to have spent some time valeting any vehicle to an acceptable standard. I can see why putting such rubbish rubber on the wheels resulted in your scorn. That alone would see me leaving the showroom, never to return. It gives an insight into what kind of customer service you could expect. Having said that, I'm sure that not all Porsche dealers are from the same mold - there are some good ones out there. @Spuffington seemed to be very impressed by his experience when he purchased his Macan.

Anyway, consider it as a lucky escape. You might have done a deal, only to find out what a bunch of cowboys they were later on.

BTW was the Cayenne used as a demonstrator, or is it a car that's been taken in part exchange?

I think this Cayenne had been used to plough fields
It was said to be Approved used, which I can only assume means some had been approved to use it to plough fields....

A very lucky escape, oddly enough distance selling sprung to mind in my disptemper, I’d be tearful if that turned up!
They had a Land Rover Sport Autobiography in showroom that was impeccable with the electric side steps that kept me entertained yesterday, though thinking, they also had an Evoque with seats that had seen plenty of action with an angle grinder...
    Phwack! I’m still bitter!

I know that quite a lot of people do buy cars unseen, but it's not something that I would ever do. I would travel to where ever to make sure that it matched the dealers description. Not that I would ever suggest that any car dealer is disreputable . . .

I’m pretty certain the next car shall be brand new specced to me as opposed to compromised
In principle I’m against the 40k tax levy so I’ll have to swallow hard or overcome that hurdle by the looks of it!

Currently thinking on benefits and needs of a Suv against a smaller coupe, on the premise, regardless I’ll be spoiling the backend with a towbar for cycle carrier ......

@snrbrtsn Sorry to read of your [and Mrs R's] experience, was it John Clark by any chance?

I'm astonished at what you report, that's absolutely shocking - I'd be invoicing them for my wasted time.

Sorry to read this, Sean. I’m also rather surprised, if it is indeed a Official Porsche Centre. Their standard of prep is far above anything I have ever seen at any other main dealer. My car was presented as close to new as possible - even with my OCD eye for detail, it was a struggle to spot it was used.........and that is the yard stick upon which the Porsche dealers are judged by Porsche UK and it is specifically asked post-purchase in the questionnaire you receive. Unlike BMW, it’s not up to the customer to spot remedial work to be done and then negotiate with the dealer, it’s supposed to be done up front. No Porsche dealer would also be able to sell a car under their warranty with non-N rated tyres, so all in all I’m a little confused.

It’s a shame you’ve given up on the brand. Like any car, you never know how the person before you has driven it or looked after it, but you can get comfort from OPC cars and mine is a case in point - I’m under no illusion that it was driven hard as part of the press fleet, but it’s been religiously serviced by Porsche main dealers and is under warranty. So far all is well and I have no regrets.

At this moment in time, I can see nothing else from any manufacturer which gets anywhere close to what the Macan offers me as a full package of driver enjoyment (whether driving it or looking at it), practicality, cachet and bang for my buck.

Just hope that wherever your search takes you, that you find the car which works for you.

All the best with the search.

    Dunk

The tyres astound my more than anything. I wouldn’t let my son drive his 75bhp Audi A2 with Jinlong tyres let alone a 500bhp weapon like that. Shocking.

The X4 is a great package, especially in M40 guise. If the new M440 doesn’t win me over the X4 will.
