... I've found time to give the car a spring clean. Although with the wife and kids also at home I haven't spent as much time on it as I would have liked. I didn't snow foam it as I'd given it a good rinse a few days prior, then found out I'd run out of car shampoo. Started by giving it a rinse, then washed with the 2 bucket method, rinsed, dried, decontaminated with an iron remover, rinsed again, detarred, rinsed, clayed, rinsed, dried then a coat of wax applied. Didn't work too hard on the front bumper as it is so badly chipped it needs a respray. Didn't have time to polish. The bonnet needs a bit of paint correction so when I have the time that'll get a good polish. In all I don't think it came out too badly, needs the summers on though, but waiting to get the 403Ms refurbed.
Looks really good. Can’t see the paint chips on the photos! Like those wheels, very unusual and rare, don’t think I’ve seen that style before.
That's because they're oem 5 series wheels style 329. When I bought them I thought they were style 415 like what @Mieke has, only when I got them did I realise my mistake. But they fit, offset is similar (4mm further out).
I like the “stance” (I think that’s what the youth call it!), the wider offset sits well in the wheel arches.
That’s looking really good and suits the wheels Whilst white is a forgiving colour, it differentiates well with a reflection Ps I’d be keeping the wheels on!
Looks great. Mine was washed on Friday 20th March, now has a nice film of airport dust on it having not gone far all week.
Yes very similar to the Type 415 wheels that I use in winter. Although mine have not been fitted this year - still in the garage.
Thanks Al, not driven the car in a few days, but now it has a layer of dust over it Mind you, the neighbour 2 doors down has been excavating his front garden so I suspect it's blown over from there. Hopefully though since I've waxed it, just a quick going over with the pressure washer ought to be enough.
Ditto, been saving this job for something to do. I may even bring out the wax and autosol metal polish for the exhaust tips - and I hate washing cars lol
The car needs a wash again as a layer of dust has settled. I really ought to whip out the 2000 grit wet and dry and smooth a couple of paint chips I touched up last weekend. And the polisher. Just don't feel like doing anything at the moment. When I was in the office I was gagging for a day off to get jobs done, now I've got the time, that's gone out of the window.
Which bin? Enquiring minds want to know! We have a brown (garden waste) bin, where the grass clippings are slowly turning to mush. Only found out a couple of days ago that the council won't be collecting brown bins until May at the earliest. Still paying for it though
We've got a large rear garden (not overlooked) with a summer house. So at least we're not stuck indoors all the time. Doing more gardening than usual and planting the vegetable plot (survival garden ). But I couldn't get seeds from my normal supplier - they were sold out! The panic buyers are now fully stocked up with seeds to go with their toilet rolls. I must admit that I have no enthusiasm for cleaning and polishing the car at the moment, probably because we can't go that far.
It's a complicated world we live in. I've been using autosol polish for the past 60 years. Nothing better than standing back and admiring the fruits of polishing alloy until it gleams like chrome. I always knew the polish as Solvol Autosol, which was usually abbreviated to Solvol. But over recent years, how many I've no idea, Solvol has been dropped from the packaging. So out of curiosity, Google being my friend, although a misleading one at times, a searched for "solvol", and the majority of results were for "solvol autosol"; clearly solvol is still associated with autosol. And a further search revealed an American site for Autosol.com, displaying various metal-polishing products. I then had a look at my tube of autosol, to find it wasn't made in the USA or the UK (although the package read Autosol UK), it was manufactured in Germany by Dursol. Who on earth is Dursol? Perhaps a Deutsche translation of Solvol - no, that didn't elicit any results. Don't laugh, languages are not my forte. There is however a "Dursol Fabrik Otto Durst GmbH & Co KG", who (it appears) totally own autosol Germany. Around and around and around. I wonder who actually owns Autosol.
Well mid afternoon break Four wheels off, cleaned then cleaned again, had some random German wax sealant stuff lying about, so that’s been applied and buffed off, wheels refitted and nuts Torqued. Disappointedly, learnt of the common problem of fitting spare wheel to the front alitis - doesn’t fit due to calliper clearance! Grr! So I’ll be hoping for rear wheel punctures only, otherwise it’s a change back with front and spare to back affair - such nonesense but often reported! Under bonnet cleaned and dressed whilst waiting for sealant to haze Next shall be the wash.....what a stretch out!
Oh please dont ask difficult questions ! The councils new arrangements started last week, we now have 4 wheelie bins Black...general waste Green...garden waste Blue ...glass and plastic Brown ...paper This week was Black and Green Next week is either blue or brown Following week Black and Green Week after either blue or Brown whichever was not done previously. Oh and the plastic re cycling boxes we had before the new wheelie bins cant be put in the plastic recycling bin ! I shall just wait and see which bin the neighbours all put out then follow suit
