Well, I have plenty of, so nothing ventured nothing gained, failing that it'll be the IPA Then I'll head out to polished bliss and see what's on there shelves, though may have to find restraint or take the wife!
Years back I tried Rain-X, which was then in fashion. The two part application. Tried the rear screen and side windows of a Passat To be honest, was so disappointed and thought it caused more smearing and haze in the wipe area, than without. Couldn't wait to get it off and back to a clean rear screen. Plus it didn't help keep the rear screen clean. So no inclination to try a front screen. Never tried anything since, have read many complaints about coatings not giving clear vision on the front screen when wiping, so reluctant to try anything else. Whether it is the application, or the product, or a bit of both, I don't know. Will need a bit of convincing, to try a coating up here where clean screens are essential "many" days of the year. No way could I live with anything like the OP's screen. Peter
Yes, particularly on winter 'low sun' days - many accidents caused by lack of vision when folk are caught out......
when on a rainy motorway I'll get a passenger to take a video and post it. you will still get dirty windows, just like on any car with wax or any other coating. the point is it repels rain water, and makes it much easier to keep clean. after 30 years of driving I have never seen anything like it.
It is not so much leaving dirt on the rear screen, but that horrid waxed look like the OP's picture. If it had been like a clear piece of glass being wiped, no issue, but need convincing there is no weird wiper smearing due to the coating. Peter
I use the likes of Rain X on my side and rear windows but I use nothing on my windscreen as I find using any type of sealant on it causes smearing . I do use White Vinegar on the windscreen in winter and clean the wiper blades regularly as well. But the reality is , how hard is it just to clean a windscreen regularly to avoid smearing , which is more likely to be coming from the wiper blade than the glass anyway.
i've not experienced smearing. I wear glasses, and i find any defect in vision is irritating. if it smeared or hazed in the sun it would be off the same day. its cheap, and you can get it off if you dont like it. The reason i use it is because in heavy rain i can see a lot easier, and its just loads safer.
Just back in from driving into the sun No smearing or impairment, funny how it only effects when wet Thinking about the above I'm reluctant to put any waxes, sealants or glazes on screen, instead I'll hold out until the wife goes shopping and add white vinegar to the list I'll clean with newspaper and wait for the results, failing that I'm kind of thinking on replacing screen rather than apply temporary coating, best look out the hammer. It's certainly not for the lack of cleaning, cars cleaned twice a week at least, it may be run off from polishes .........though doubtful, other than knowing it's frustrating......
Coming back to this! Car was snow foamed and left to soak, windscreen was cleared Using Sarsons white vinegar, with a heavy pour on initially A kitchen scourer was then soaked in vinegar and windscreen scrubbed using both sides of the scourer Process repeated with soaking the screen and scourer in fresh vinegar a lot of vinegar used. Car & Screen pressure washed then washed as normal External hazing, streaking appears to have vanished .........
I have a waxed look on my windscreen - but only because I dried it with the wrong microfibre towel! I'll be cleaning it properly soon though
