Sounds good Spuff - quite a few folks are ready for the frost and snow up here in the 'Far North' too. It doesn't matter how big or small, light or heavy the wheels are you'd benefit from a set of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Alloy...l-M14-x-1-5-/231466008055?hash=item35e472fdf7 Just be sure to get the right size - 12x1.5 or 14x1.25 They make changing a wheel at the side of the road in bad weather a lot easier.
I had one of those a mate made for me on his lathe when I had the e39 - was a big help when handling the wheel/tyre combo on and off. Foolishly, I forgot to take it out when I sold the car, but in any case I'm not sure it'd have fitted the e60. That's what the RAC's for , Bob [just joking, I prob wouldn't call them out for a flat, but you never know........]. I suppose run-flats have made that 'activity' largely obsolete anyway.
Couldn't agree more. Along with a torque wrench makes life so much easier when changing wheels over as the seasons change.
I wonder why all manufacturers, when the wheel fasterners are bolts, rather than nuts, do not provide what Peugeot did with my 407. A screwed stud, knurled at one end to give finger grip and about 4"/5" long. You screw it into the top hole in the hub, hang the wheel on it, position the wheel, and then put the other bolts in. Though I never needed to, you could change a wheel easily even in the dark. It would cost all of 50p.
Yes a major error there on my part. The two sizes should have read 12x1.5 and 14x1.25 Well spotted - thanks for pointing that out. I've edited the original post.
I have got to get a 14mm one for the F07, I have one for the E60 in 12mm but it is to small for the new car, makes locating the wheel much easier
well i finally got my winter wheels on the car today first thing was summer wheels off then all the arches thoroughly cleaned before fitting the wheels and tyres that i got from germany, three of them went fine and as i fitted the last wheel i noticed a problem, the tyres are rotational and the rotation arrow on the last tyre was pointing the wrong way I went around the car and checked all the other tyres to see if i had made a mistake but the three were right and the last was wrong, as the car was up on a jack with the front offside wheel off i thought i would pop over to our local tyre depot which is only a few hundred yards from the house so i rolled the wheel over and 10 minutes later the tyre was turned on the rim and re balanced and we were good to go wheels fitted i popped down the the local garage adjusted the tyre pressure reset the TPMS and had a quick spin down the road to make sure the system was functioning as it should, the snow shovel and other winter driving kit is now tucked away in the boot so i am as ready for winter as i can be
had mine put on today pending tonights expected snow. need to get some for the Mini Was told today only need to put winters on the fronts on a mini - by a decent tyre shop too. Whats everyones views on that ?
Fitted mine today. The weather says snow for us here overnight but with the daytime temperatures around 3 degrees the last few days I was planning to put them on this week anyway.
Minus 2 degrees C last night and a white frost covering everything this morning. Let's see who posts the first pic of the Winter of a snow covered BMW.
@K777 that is not somthing i would do, back in the late 70,s my dad was driving taxis and wedding cars big rear wheel drive mercs and he always used to fit winter tyres to the drive wheels only and that was seen as better than no winter tyres but advice seems to have changed as winter tyre technology has evolved my thinking is if you fit good winter tyres to the front drive wheels and have summer tyres on the rear you will have lots of grip at the front and no grip at the rear and this will make the car difficult to handle and you could potentially loose the rear end due to lack of grip at the rear I would say go for four
i have just bought the two M14 x 1.25 from the seller you linked above I have got to buy a new deep alloy wheel socket as well as the sealey one that i had cracked on me today as i was fitting my third wheel
Like this.... I hope not, still on summer wheels. Snowline creeping down during the day, but looking at the local weather forecast I think we miss it this time and temperatures will climb again. That's what I'm hoping for, as I would like a few days before fitting the winter wheels. Peter
