Sad news - John Reid (Slim_Boy_Fat)

    I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere but I know John was a fixture on many BMW forums for a number of years, so lots of people know him. I never met him but felt like I had as he has been on the BMW and welding forums I frequent for over 25 years.

    I know he had friends on here and I haven't seen this posted elsewhere so just wanted to make folk aware.

    That's terribly sad. John was such a well-respected, fun and kind figure on here - both the original BMWLand and this reincarnation. He'll be sorely missed.

    I never had the pleasure of meeting him but he was very kind in offering me tips and an open door to visit on my several trips up on the NC500. Sad that I never made it and was able to take him up on it.

    That’s really sad news, never met John but he was a staple of this forum and its predecessor, it seems from that welding forum a very well known member there too. Looks like you have to be a member to see the announcement post.

    I too was unaware he had declined health wise, so sorry to hear the news, bit of a shock tbh.
    Condolences to his family & friends, I never met John myself but was always helpful.
    According to the mig forum, John's remains have been donated to medical science so there will no service.

    So sad to hear.

    He had of course been in poor health for several years, but I was unaware of how fast he had declined recently.

    He was a great guy - both on this forum - and as a friend - he often visited me in the NE of Scotland when he was passing through on his way from the Highlands to visit his family.

    He was a retired Golf Professional and latterly an enthusiastic amateur welder - he will be sorely missed by many - especially on the several forums he frequented.

    My condolences to his family, and to all who knew him.

    Sorry to hear the sad news.

    I never met John but his posts were always friendly and often humoured.

    Genuinely gutted to hear this.

    I remember him fondly from the old site and when I recently re-discovered this site, he was the first one to welcome me back to the fold and probably the first name I recognised from the old site.

    My condolences to his family and friends.
