I’ve had four cans of the official BMW diesel additive from Cotswolds. They sell on eBay here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5x-bottl...409147&hash=item3d9f0cf2d2:g:BR4AAOSwzf1fEc7f Sure our friendly Cotswold friend will do a deal.
A good question. So far I’ve done 26K miles in two years and haven’t had a problem with EGR/DPF or injectors, so in that sense possibly some good. It feels smooth, for a soot chucker, ticks over perfectly and gives decent mpg. More about maintenance than any noted improvements in my mind. Or maybe snake oil.....
If you have a ‘rough diesel’ Like my transporter van was....it definitely was much smoother and quieter when on Millers.... Even my wife could tell the difference But in an ultra smooth bmw diesel...??hard to tell.... the way I figured it, was that it worked out much cheaper than premium diesel for the same effect.... and as for it being any use mechanically only time would tell... so after 7 years of use when we sold the car.... nothing to report.... so how would we know in the end..?? Save yourself some hard earned and get a refillable dose bottle. It does work and will over time improve your MPG. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hydra-Fu...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l9372
When we had two diesel-engined cars some years back, I also purchased the 5 litre container and used a refillable bottle. Agreed, you can save a lot of money.
I was using the BMW additive in my E91 diesel. It was ~160,000 miles on original DPF and ran like a dream (do miss that thing) Ed
I've been using V-Power since I bought the car in Aug 2012, and so was my sister, whom I bought it from, and was the first owner (from new in 2003). No issues at all with the engine. With the few miles I drive (about 3 - 4 k per year) the extra pennies for the premium fuel is hardly something to worry about.
Does anyone else remember way back in the mists of time (perhaps in the 60s) garages had a large stainless-steel conical trigger-operated dispenser of Red-X 'Upper Cylinder Lubricant'? My old dad bought one and a 20 gallon barrel of the syrupy thick red additive to go with it. Lasted for years it did - one squirt a gallon IIRC. But it looked, smelled, and felt to the touch exactly like Auto Transmission Fluid - which is what dad ordered when the original ran out. I discovered later that it was commonplace for old-school truckers to pour a litre (or perhaps a couple of pints back in those days) of ATF into the truck tank along with a hundred litres or so of diesel. Some of the old lads over on LandyZone still do the same today. 250ml to 50litres of fuel.
Well I never! I never thought I would see one of them again. If I remember correctly the garages used to charge 1d (one old Penny) per shot per gallon when you filled up.
I remember as a child, my father would say something like "4 gallons and a shot of Red-X please". And he'd still have change from £1 I also recall my father (working in the plant hire business, running a workshop through my childhood), putting all sorts of additives in fuel tanks. Peter
Filling up with 20 litres of fuel costs me about £1.50 extra for V-Power, as opposed to regular diesel.
Here's one on eBay - only £75 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VIntage-...268734?hash=item5b7e41d9be:g:cpsAAOSwEOhfZl6e Wonder where my dad's one is now?
And don't forget the 2 stroke pump next to it. Never bought petrol in the old d money but i remember buying a gallon in my bike at 32p with 2 stroke oil.
I remember there was outrage when petrol went up to 5 shillings a gallon. I remember giving the garage a 10 bob note (50 pence) for 2 gallons and getting no change.
