I couldn’t take looking at a filthy car any longer….it was depressing me… so a Sunday car wash was required. Had to give the Audi a quick wash/vacuum as I didn’t want to hear that I’m neglecting it. Then used the AG Polar Blast to soak the M440i, it was truly covered in grit and salt, no way I was going near it with a wash mitt without a good soak. Used a detailing brush to agitate all the trim, gaps and runners, then rinsed. The vast majority of road muck did come off on the first rinse, shows that the 10-12 min soak in snow foam was doing its job. Then a good wash using the supplied BMW shampoo, lots of suds to get the remaining gunk off. Soaked the wheels in the supplied BMW wheel cleaner, again agitated with a detailing brush. Rinse and dry/buff and the car is looking lovely again. I am impressed with the ProtectX so far, after the wash the water was still flowing off quickly, there is definitely a protective coating working away. I’m going to have to have another think about how I clean the wheels. The Matt black coating is odd, even after a soak, agitate, wash and rinse the paint seems to hold residue and looks dirty in places. Might need to take them off and give them a proper protective coating. Happy with a clean car again.
Rather wet down here in Cornwall, the car was clean before I left the Midlands, now resembles something that has been through a rally stage or two.
We’ve had a lot of pollen recently, it has coated the cars in a light green dust. Decided to clean mine today, then touch up the 6 or 7 small stone chips on the front bumper. The eBay non-BMW paint stick does look to be a very good match. Always love a clean car.
Inspired by @Nuclear and his epic detailing job on his Z3, I gave the car a decent clean today. Vacuumed the interior as it had quite a bit of dried mud, dust and detritus from the passenger department, not naming and names on that one... Had to take the mats out and vacuum them outside of the car to get them properly clean. Words have been had. Then cleaned the dash with anti-static spray. Rinse, wash and dry followed by a Magna treatment, then a wash/rinse and dry. Treated the wheels and blacked the tyres with AG tyre spray. Looking all shiny and clean again. It has taken me a while, but I have finally worked out what has bugged me about the front view of the car (the massive bucked teeth grills I hear you all shout, but no, not that), it is the way the lower portion of the bumper drops away to the outer edges. This just doesn't look right to me, unbalanced in a weirdly symmetrical way. I've looked at a few gloss black splitters, these seem to clean the lines up nicely, will investigate a simple one of these to see if it addresses this issue. Anyone else think the same?
Cracking job with the suds… It’s a real shame at this time of year as they don’t stay clean long. I get your point on the front, though a Quick Look on Autotraders array of M4’s, with part and full splitters, almost skirts the bottom and looks odder (is that a word ?) Personally, I’d leave as is, otherwise skirts shall follow along the side! I still think, the wife made the wrong choice sticking with Audi, your 4 is stunning!
Odder! noting, it’s not an M4, —- Deleted as reported offensive to eyes —— link https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/202310042652867?quoteref=56698b00-811c-43d7-80b0-7b21b956a8f4
That must be one of the official BMW parts, maybe. The only one I have seen that I like (with some research) is the AC Schnitzer one, a little bit on the expensive side though...! https://shop.rossiters.co.uk/ac-schnitzer-front-splitter-for-bmw-4-series-g22g23-m-sport-11148-p.asp That yellow one is making my eyes hurt....what a colour!
Apologies for the yellow, large picture deleted! I’m sure Alpina do one and Sytners have one in green, though very busy in the middle and wouldn’t look right either. https://www.sytner.co.uk/vehicle-de...VwZJoCR2O3A-GEAQYASABEgIStvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
A typical example of a sheep in wolf's clothing. A least Matthew's 4 series, for all its Marmite front, has some genuine get-up-and-go
That's some car that mate, very nice indeed and looks great too. Sadly it won't take long to get dirty again but protecting the paint from the elements is key. I'll be taking Child No.2 out in the Z3 round the Yorkshire Dales on Sunday before she goes back to Uni so she'll need another wash (Z3 that is). Agree on the bumper angle, a splitter may resolve.
