Hi All, Just noticed this on one of my front wheels today, not sure how longs it has been corroding for as its on the front passenger side and it's not a side I usually look at that much. As the car is 2016 model, would this be a possible warranty replacement? Upon the tough it feels smooth so it seem the lacquer? on the top is fine, its actually underneath it that has corroded? There is some damage to the rim edge of the wheel as I hit a kurb a while back which left a bit of a gash on the edge but no other part of the wheel was damaged. If unlikely warranty replacement, is it ok to leave the wheel as is or should I buy a new one as unsure how the corrosion affects the structure of the wheel? is it likely to break of would that take a very long time to occur? My thoughts at the moment is to maybe see if warranty replacement if not, look into price of replacement but I am considering changing the car at the end of the year, beginning part of next year so maybe not worth bothering and accept a few quid off the price for the dealer to repair/replace it. Thanks Kev
Upon a quick look this morning, it seems this is the only wheel affected but will have to check the others more closely as I only noticed it when I was leaving to go to work and was too dark when i got home to check. Kev
Very common issue with diamond cut wheels, as long as there’s no visible damage to the area where the corrosion is then it will be a warranty replacement
Might be my eyes but it looks like the logo center cap has chipped the lacquer clockwise of the msport sticker (lower affected spot). I would not be too worried about structural integrity but it will only get worse looking as time progresses. Haven’t a clue really about warranty but they can only say no I suppose.
Thanks all, will have to contact my local dealer and get them to take a look and see if it is warranty replacement. My 3 year warranty on the car is up in Feb so I presume the wheels are covered under this same 3 year warranty? Kev
Booked the car in this weekend at a dealer near me, not my usual one as it seems they don't do this on weekends, only weekdays. Kev
had one of mine replaced under warranty for "worming" around the centre cap. They ask for the car to come in, so wheel off and closer inspection. The actual wheel took 6 weeks to arrive, before another visit to have it replaced. Stand firm with them and say no damage, no cleaning products etc (as they try and squirm out of replacing if possible)
Thanks @pinewood Certainly no damage to the area where the corrosion is and no cleaning products as the other 3 wheels are ok from what i can tell, will look closer at those before the weekend but nothing sticks out when i had a quick look, certainly nothing like this one. Kev
as said a common problem with diamond cut wheels, it is commonly known as white worm and it is water or wheel cleaner ge, tting between the wheel and the clear cote it will be interesting to see what your chosen dealer has to say about it
Hi all, I'm sat at the dealers, it appears after a closer look my other 3 wheels have a small, very small bit of corrosion on each. Either on spoke or by wheel but bit. Will try take some pics later. They are currently taking car into workshop to take pictures and assess to send off for warranty claim. They are hoping to get it sent off by Monday and hopefully will hear back 2 or 3 days later. So fingers crossed. They have advised no sign of refurb etc which would void the warranty, at which point I did advise that was good as I bought it from them Kev
That’s because they’ve gotta help pay for these whopping great new dealership centres they are building everywhere....! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There’s a new Mercedes centre at Stockport that is so big, it’s going to put your average IKEA to shame... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So here are the pics of the corrosion on all 4 wheels.... Couple of the wheels have corrosion in 2 places Kev
Not yet, I was told they submitted it today and they are hoping to get a decision mid week but if I don't hear anything then I should give them a call on Friday to get a update. I got the persons name and number of someone there who is looking after the case. So now its a waiting game, I suspect maybe BMW warranty department don't work weekends? Kev
I suspect maybe BMW warranty department don't work weekends? Kev
You re probably right .
Is your car still covered by the manufacturer's 3 year warranty, or is it the BMW / Allianz extended warranty?
